SYMPHONY IN C MAJOR, Op.25c (1984)

 

As the third part of the “Symphonic Concert No.1”, Symphony in C major is the conclusion for this large form.  Inspired by the Qing Ming festival in Beijing in 1976 and strongly influenced by maestro Li De-lun, Symphony in C major was composed in Pittsburgh in 1984.  Maestro Li conducted the world premiere of the work, which was just dedicated to him.

After the premiere of the whole “Symphonic Concert No.1”, took place in Beijing, 1984, this symphony has been completely revised and recorded by the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra of Moscow, conducted by maestro Klemetz in 2001.  As Maestro Li always said, “Chines music could be symphonic”, this ideal has been practiced again in this work.

Symphony in C major consists of four movements:

1. Allegro con brio,   2. Andante con moto, a Marcia funebre,      3. Allegro vivace, a Scherzo 4. Finale, Andante con moto , Allegro con brio .

Instrumentation

Flauto piccolo, 2 Flauti, 2 Oboi, Corno inglese, 2 Clarinetti in B flat, clarinetto Basso, 2 Fagotti, Contrafagotto, 4 Corni in F, 3 Trombe in B flat, 3 Tromboni, Tuba, 4 Timpani, Piatti, Tamburo,Triagle, and Violini I, Violini II, Viole , Violoncelli e Contrabassi.
