It’s a piece An-lun Huang dedicated to his professor Lothar Klein, the Canadian composer of University of Toronto. It was world premiered by Chinese musicians Li-ke Chang, Xiao-hong Fu and Xiao-mei Zhu at the New England Conservatory of Music, Boston in 1982.

Created by An-lun Huang, “Poem for Dance” is a special music form for musicians and ballet dancers together appear on a stage. Of course, the music could be performed as a solo piece. Huang’s three “Poem for Dance” have been quite successful:

The no.1, for flute and piano, has been put on the stage of the National Ballet of Canada in 1984. It has also been also appointed as the official piece of the National Flute Competition of China, in 1984.

The no.3, for piano, has been also put on a stage of a New Yorker’s ballet. After its New York debut by Fei-ping Hsu at Carnegie Hall in1988, it has been appointed as the official piece of both of International Rubinstein Piano Competition of Israel and the Beijing International Piano Competition, China, early of 90’s last century.

The no.2 of the score in this edition, a Duet for Cello and Piano, after its Toronto debut on the stage of National Ballet of Canada, it was also been appointed as the official piece of both of the National Cello Competition of China and Taiwan in the 90th, last century.

In this piece, both of cello and piano get a well expression bringing into the music. It’s written in a sonata form without development. The musicality of meditation, tenderness, humorous and the irresistible willpower of the piece are all carefree lightsome catharsis through its dramatic contrast musical framework.
